Get up close to thundering tidewater glaciers and see stunning wilderness and wildlife. Be on the lookout for brown and black bears, mountain goats, and the Sitka black-tailed deer. Southeast Alaska is famous for its seasonal migration of humpback whales, which are engaged in almost constant feeding behaviors. View Orcas (killer whales), Steller sea lions, harbor seals, Dall’s porpoise, harbor porpoise, and sea otters. Enjoy Guided kayaking and DIB (shallow water expedition craft) adventures in Hoonah Sound, Tenakee Inlet, and Port Frederick. Take off on a Hovercraft flight over the shifting sandbars of the Taku River to explore the largest and only advancing glacier flowing from the Juneau Icefield. Kayak in the stunning Tracy Arm Fjord, with up-close tidewater glacier viewing, indulge yourself at Port Houghton, Hobart Bay, or Windham Bay with an evening beach fire and a king crab feast.

Day-By-Day Itinerary:

July 21 – 28, 2018

Day 1 – July 21, 2018: Arrive Sitka / Cruise to Hoonah Sound
Explore beautiful Sitka, the only community in Southeast Alaska that faces the open ocean waters of the Gulf of Alaska. Visit fascinating sites that highlight the community’s rich Alaska Native and Russian history. Embark for the winding narrows north of town while spotting for sea otters, bears, whales, and other wildlife. Anchor for the evening in Hoonah Sound, a protected body of water in Peril Strait.

Day 2 – July 22, 2018: Eastern Baranof Island
Navigate the remote eastern coast of Baranof Island. This region includes many intimate coves and inlets, making it ideal for True Alaska exploration. Opportunities include Hidden Falls, Takatz Bay, and Cosmos Cove.

Day 3 – July 23, 2018: Tenakee Inlet
Enjoy kayak and DIB adventures in Tenakee Inlet. Stretch your legs as you beach comb or hike along the beautiful remote coastlines of the area.

Day 4 – July 24, 2018: Icy Strait & Port Frederick
Ply the waters of Icy Strait, an area known by locals for incredible humpback whale viewing. Discover the intriguing culture of the Tlingit people as you pay a visit to the native village of Hoonah in Port Frederick.

Day 5 – July 25, 2018: Taku Inlet
Awake to a thrilling morning hovercraft flight, where you’ll soar over the shallow waters and shifting sandbars of Taku Inlet en route to the largest glacier flowing from the Juneau Icefield. Afterwards, explore the wildlife-rich waters of Stephen’s Passage.

Day 6 – July 26, 2018: Tracy Arm
Journey through Tracy Arm fjord, an area the famed naturalist John Muir referred to as “A Wild Unfinished Yosemite.” Experience the inspiring feeling of kayaking amongst towering icebergs in front of two tidewater glaciers, while taking a moment to stare upward at granite cliffs that rise from sea level to 4,000 feet.

Day 7 – July 27, 2018: Frederick Sound

View entertaining Steller sea lions on their haul-out on Brothers Island while scouting for humpback whales in the world-renowned whale waters of Frederick Sound. Experience the thrill of viewing wildlife from the DIB. End the day in a remote, wilderness bay for kayaking, a relaxing beach fire, and a King crab feast. Options include Windham Bay, Hobart Bay, or Port Houghton.

Day 8 – July 28, 2018: Juneau

Disembark M/V Misty Fjord in Alaska’s capital city of Juneau. Transfer to the airport or your hotel.

A voyage on the 10-guest M/V Misty Fjord expedition vessel is an experience that allows for itinerary flexibility. The Captain welcomes and seeks out opportunities to explore places rarely visited and showcase Alaska in its wildest form. The M/V Misty Fjord is custom built to allow us to push deeper into Alaska’s remote wilderness bays and glacial fjords. The outer deck is designed for optimal wildlife viewing and photography. Cabins are compact, but offer a private and relaxing retreat from each day’s adventure. All 5 guest cabins feature a head and shower, plush interior with elegant teak finish, Aft salon with flat-screen TV and DVD selection, spacious wheelhouse to experience the skipper’s view and to always be a part of the action. Outer deck designed for optimal wildlife viewing ad photography.
