After a final, early morning safari, depart for Velavadar National Park. Arrive late in the afternoon and check in to the Blackbuck Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – Thursday, February 28, 2019 – Velavadar National Park
Spend a full day exploring this diverse park. The colorful avian cast includes larks and sandgrouse, as well as the largest known harrier roost in the world, where you have the opportunity to witness some of the 2,000 raptors that return here to sleep after hunting all day.

Day 7 – Friday, March 1, 2019 – Velavadar / Dasada
Embark on one final safari this morning before driving to Dasada, located outside the Little Rann of Kutch. Along the way, visit the world famous Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary. The Rann of Kutch is a geographically unique landscape that was once an arm of the Arabian Sea and is now a vast plain of salty clay. After an introductory exploration of the area, enjoy dinner at Rann Riders, Dasada, your home for three nights.

Day 8 & 9 – Saturday/Sunday, March 2 & 3, 2019 – Little Rann of Kutch
During the morning and late afternoon, set out on safaris to seek out the park’s wildlife, including khur, white-footed desert fox, golden jackal, and wolf, plus myriad birdlife—birds of prey, bustards, sandgrouse, and more. Return to the lodge for lunch, followed by a visit to nearby tribal villages.

Day 10 – Monday, March 4, 2019 – Little Rann of Kutch / Siana
This morning drive to Siana and take a short camel ride into Siana Camp, your base for the next two nights. Join an afternoon jeep safari to search for birds and mammals. Enjoy a performance of folk dances at our camp this evening.

Day 11 – Tuesday, March 5, 2019 – Siana
Today, enjoy both morning and early evening safaris in the desert by jeep or on foot to seek out the region’s wildlife, including desert fox, stripped hyena, bluebull, Indian gazelle, and perhaps even leopard. You also have the opportunity to walk through a local village to observe daily life.

Day 12 – Wednesday, March 6, 2019 – Siana / Phalodi
This morning drive to Phalodi, with a stop en route for lunch with an Indian family at a private home. Upon arrival, make a visit to the local wetlands, then check in to Kurja Resort, for dinner and overnight.

Day 13 – Thursday, March 7, 2019 – Phalodi / Mihir Garh
Rise before dawn to visit the nearby village of Khichan to watch and photograph the famed demoiselle crane gathering. These beautiful birds are the world’s smallest crane species and as many as 9,000 birds gather here for the winter. After their early morning feeding, the cranes all settle on the sand dunes beyond the village and as they turn to face the sun, their black chest feathers contrast magnificently with the blue winter sky. Continue into the Thar Desert to arrive at the splendid Mihir Garh Palace Hotel. Each of this spectacular property’s nine suites boast more than 1,700 square feet of luxury, including a private Jacuzzi or plunge pool.

Day 14 – Friday, March 8, 2019 – Mihir Garh
Today, visit a rural village to learn how the local community lives in harmony with the environment. Return to the serenity of Mihir Garh, for a birding walk or an afternoon at leisure. Relax by the outdoor pool, watch wildlife from your private terrace, visit the stables to view rare Marwari horses, or book an indulgent service at the spa. A gourmet dinner of Indian and Continental specialties, prepared with local ingredients, rounds out a perfect day in this remote, and peaceful corner of the desert.

Day 15 – Saturday, March 9, 2019 – Mihir Garh / Jodhpur
Continue to Jodhpur and check in to the opulent Umaid Bhawan Palace. This, the second largest palace in the world, is still in use as the personal residence of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. Several sections have been converted into a sumptuous hotel. Wander the meticulously maintained grounds, go for a swim in one of the two magnificent pools, or peruse the fascinating on-site museum. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort; this 15th-century fort is situated on a rugged hill overlooking the city. Inside you will find displays of historic art, costumes, textiles, and weapons. This evening, return to Umaid Bhawan Palace to enjoy a farewell dinner fit for a king.

Day 16 & 17 – Sunday/Monday, March 10 & 11, 2019 – Jodphur / Mumbai / USA
Board your flight to Mumbai and connect with your independent homeward fight, arriving in the USA the next day.
