Iceland is a year-round destination and will take you by surprise with its vast expanses of black sand beaches, stunning glaciers, rugged volcanoes, waterfalls, geysers, panoramic vistas of the islands awe-inspiring landscape, and of course the Aurora Borealis. Iceland is one of the best places in the world to observe the wonder and magic of the northern lights. Expedition Easy has designed this itinerary for travel during fall/winter, with focus on the Lights. Enjoy the chase of the elusive northern lights via a 4×4 Super Jeep excursion after dinner, or just wait for the lights to appear in the evening sky while soaking in a geothermal outdoor spa. During the day eat and drink like a local, there is an abundance of culinary delights for foodies to appreciate. Experience Iceland’s natural wonders and breathe in the pure mountain air with visits to Thingvellir National Park in the rift valley, Gullfoss double waterfall, and Geysir. Drive into the interior of Iceland’s West Volcanic zone, take a hike around Kerid caldera, and take a dip in a natural geothermal pool. Super Jeeps take us to Thorsmork (Valley of the Gods) and Seljalandsfoss, the most dramatic of the many waterfalls. Enjoy a visit to the National Museum of Iceland and the famous Blue Lagoon.
Day 1: Early arrival at Keflavík Airport. Meet and Greet upon arrival and transfer to our hotel. Full day at leisure to explore downtown Reykjavik on your own. Possible northern lights viewing. Overnight at our downtown hotel.
Day 2: Tour of the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant, check in to ION Adventure Hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight ION Hotel (or similar) for 2 nights with possible northern lights viewing.
Day 3: Full day Golden Circle tour – Pingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park – Geyser – Gullfoss Waterfall. Overnight ION Hotel with possible Northern lights viewing.
Day 4 & 5: Two full days touring Kerid Crater, the Secret Lagoon, Thorsmork Glacial Valley Excursions via Super Jeeps & Seljalandsfoss. Overnight at Hotel Ranga (or similar) for 2 nights with possible northern lights viewing.
Day 6: Return to Reykjavik with lunch en-route at Fridheimar Greenhouse and Equestrian Center. Overnight downtown Reykjavik Hotel with last chance for possible northern lights viewing.
Day 7: National Museum – Blue Lagoon – Keflavik Airport for return flights home.

Day 01 – Sunday, February 18, 2018 – Arrival to Iceland
Arrive in the morning to Keflavik Airport, Iceland. Upon arrival, clear customs and immigration. You will be met by an Expedition Easy representative and transferred to our hotel. Rest up at your leisure and explore the many local attractions within 1 km of your hotel. Lunch on your own, Welcome Dinner at a favorite local restaurant. Overnight Reykjavik Hotel – B&B.
Day 02 – Monday, February 19, 2018 – Geothermal Power Plant – ION Hotel (or similar)
After breakfast, check out of the hotel, meet our guide and drive to the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant for a tour. Afterward continue to our hotel in Nesjavellir with its magnificent landscape of lava fields that stretches out to the hoizon. After lunch at the hotel, take some time at leisure, explore the beautiful surroundings, take a hike with our guide or enjoy a soak in the outdoor hot tub over looking the lava fields. Dinner at our hotel, after dinner drinks at the floor to ceiling window Lava Bar for possible northern lights viewing. Overnight at ION Adventrue Hotel.
Day 03 – Tuesday, February 20, 2018 – Full Day Golden Circle Tour – Gullfoss, Geysir and Þingvellir
After breakfast, meet your guide and driver in the lobby for a full day tour encompassing the “Big Three” – Gullfoss, Geysir and Pingvellir. They are collectively known as the Golden Circle and provide a look at some of the scenic wonders for which Iceland is justly renowned. The Golden Circle is undoubtedly one of the highlights in a visit to Iceland. It covers the most historical sites in the country, spouting geyser, hot springs, glacial river waterfall, greenhouse industry and beautiful scenery. Return to ION Adventure Hotel for dinner, possible northern lights viewing.
Day 04 – Wednesday, February 21, 2018 – Kerid Crater and The Secret Lagoon – Hotel Ranga
After a hearty breakfast and check out, we head to Kerid Crater located in the Grímsnes area. Wearing our clamp-ons we set out on a short hike around this unique crater lake. Afterward we continue to Flúðir for lunch, followed by a soak in the Secret Lagoon, a geothermal pool with a spouting geyser. Continuing our southern Iceland journey, we check in to our hotel located in the countryside of Southern Iceland. Dinner is at the hotel followed by special star gazing in a first class observatory with the resident astronomer guru. Settle in under the stars on a wood carved lounger or one of the outdoor geothermal hot tubs while waiting for the magical Aurora Borealis to appear.
Day 05 – Thursday, February 22, 2018 – South Shore – Super Jeeps –Thorsmork Glacial Valley & Seljalandsfoss
We have an early start today, board our Super Jeeps and drive through the diverse landscape of lush farmland, glaciers, dramatic sandy coastline and striking waterfalls. Experience an off road excursion to the black sand beaches along the southern shores. Afterward we head to the glacier valley of Thorsmörk, a natural paradise, this is a beautiful rugged and uninhabited area, nestled between three glaciers and isolated by glacial rivers. To reach Thorsmörk we drive on a rough track and cross rivers that have no bridges so this will be a great adventure! It is a valley, full of geological wonders and unique vistas that Icelandic nature lovers have enjoyed for centuries. On the way back to our hotel we stop at the amazing Seljalandsfoss and take a short hike up and behind the mighty falls. Return to Hotel Ranga for dinner and overnight with possible northern lights viewing.
Day 06 – Friday, February 23, 2018 – Fridheimer Greenhouse – Reykjavik – Norhtern Lights Center
After breakfast enjoy a leisurely morning, take a short hike or a soak in the geothermal tub before we make our way back to Reykjavik. We stop at the famous Fridheimer Greenhouse for a special one of a kind lunch prepared and served in the greenhouse as well as a visit to the Icelandic equestrian center.
Check into our downtown hotel in the afternoon, before dinner we visit the Northern Lights Center.
Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at a downtown hotel.
Day 07 – Saturday, February 24, 2018 National Museum – Blue Lagoon – Fly Home
After breakfast we visit the National Museum which offers a variety of fascinating exhibitions and one permanent display illustrating lavishly the story of Iceland’s past, from the medieval days of Viking settlements to current contemporary culture. Afterward we visit the Blue Lagoon and experience this
geothermal spa located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Soak all your cares away and enjoy a fabulous lunch before heading to the airport for our flights home.
