Overview:

This 12-day journey offers a unique glimpse into European history in the mysterious and beautiful region of Transylvania. This 12-day  tour takes you back in time to the Medieval Ages. Explore centuries-old Saxon Villages, tour historic castles and fortified churches, and experience Transylvanian culture with the help of your local expert guide, Peter Melincianu.

Starting in Cluj Napoca, you will drive to Hunedoara and Corvin Castle for a tour and cultural experience, then onto Sibiu to visit Bran Castle.

Continue to Sinaia where you will stay in one of King Charles’s Residences. Explore the surrounding Saxon Village and enjoy activities provided by the Residence.

Next, venture to Sighisoara Medieval Citadel to visit and tour the historically significant village, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. End back in Cluj Napoca with some added city activities

Day-By-Day Itinerary:

Day 1 | Cluj Napoca

Arrive in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Make your way through customs and immigration, collect your luggage, and meet your travel representative who will transfer you to your individual apartment in the Old Town. Check in for 2 nights. In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner and trip briefing provided by Transylvania Unveiled. 1st Overnight.

Day 2 | Cluj Napoca

Take a guided walking tour of the Old Town of Cluj-Napoca. Visit St. Michael’s Church, the Matthias Corvinus Statue, the Tailor’s Bastion, and the House of Matthias Corvinus. Dinner on own account (Options Provided). 2nd overnight.

Day 3 | Hunedoara And Corvin Castle

Check out of your accommodation and transfer to Hunedoara, approx. 2.5 hour drive. Check into your hotel for 2 nights. In the evening, enjoy a private event, “Corvin Castle After Hours” (5 guest minimum). Group dinner at hotel restaurant provided. Overnight.

Day 4 | Hunedoara, Corvin Castle, Cultural Village Visit

Take a guided tour of Corvin Castle. After, visit the house of a local villager who will provide a display of their traditional costumes and then enjoy homemade pies for lunch. Return to hotel for dinner or enjoy dinner on own (Options Provided). 2nd Overnight.

Day 5   | Sibiu and Bran Castle

Check out of your accommodation and transfer to Bran Castle, approx. 4.5 hour drive. Stop for lunch in Sibiu’s Old Town. Arrive at Bran Castle and check into your accommodation for 1 night. Spend the afternoon visiting Bran Castle and Queen Marie’s residence. Group dinner provided. Overnight.

Day 6  | Bran Castle and Sinaia

Check out and transfer to Peles Castle in Sinaia, approx. 1.5 hour drive. Check into your accommodation on the castle grounds for 1 night. After, take a guided tour of Peles Castle and Pelisor Castle. Group dinner provided. Overnight.

Day 7-8  | King Charles Residence in Saxon Village

Transfer to Valea Zalan, approx. 2 hour drive. Check into your King Charles Residence Village Farmhouse in a Saxon Village. Farm-to-table dinner provided with live music from a local musician.

The next day, enjoy activities on the property, including horseback riding, nature walks, and horse & cart rides. Enjoy a provided al fresco farm-to-table dinner and 2nd overnight.

Day 9  | Viscri Village

In the morning, take a horse-drawn carriage ride around the village. Check out and transfer to Viscri, approx. 1.5 hour drive. Check into your farmhouse accommodation for 1 night. Visit the fortified medieval church and walk around the village. Farm-to-table dinner provided. Overnight.

Day 10  | Sighisoara Medieval Citadel

Check out and transfer to Sighisoara, approx. 1 hour drive. Check into a boutique hotel for 1 night. In the afternoon, explore the Citadel, including a stroll through the Citadel Square, a visit to the Clock Tower, Church on the Hill, the Birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, and enjoy stunning views from the top of the fortress. Dinner on own account (Options Provided). Overnight

Day 11  | Return to Cluj Napoca

Check out and transfer to Cluj-Napoca, approx. 2.5 hour transfer. Optional stop in Turda to visit the Salt Mines. Check into accommodation in the Old Town. Group dinner provided. Overnight.

Day 12  | Depart

Attend a morning meeting and end-of-tour debriefing. Time permitting, explore the Old Town. Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

  • For groups smaller than 5, the private event at Corvin Castle will be offered as an option at an additional $250 per guest.
